From the poet Lucrezia Tornabuoni, mother of Lorenzo the Magnificent, to Clarice Orsini, who married him and gave birth to the future Pope Leo X. From Caterina Sforza, who transmitted his passion for arms to his son Giovanni dale Bande Nere, to Eleonora da Toledo, who reigned alongside the Grand Duke Cosimo I. And finally Anna Maria Luisa, who willed all the personal property of the Medici to the Tuscan state, provided that nothing was ever removed from Florence.
With twelve portraits of Medici women, the author shapes a story about three centuries long, where love and affairs, political alliances and intrigues, unexpected virtues and fatal weaknesses are deeply interwoven.
