L’arte si muove da sempre su quel territorio dove l’intreccio amoroso è sovrano. Ma cosa accade quando le passioni sono al centro della vita privata di grandi pittori e scultori, anziché contagiarli solo sulla scena della creazione? E come si comportano gli artisti quando sono scossi loro stessi dai tormenti d’amore?
Il percorso di Galimberti passa attraverso le vicende erotiche che i grandi del Cinquecento vissero in prima persona e rappresentarono, più o meno celatamente, nelle loro opere. Analizzando la storia di figure come Michelangelo, Raffaello, Benvenuto Cellini o Giovanni Antonio Bazzi “il Sodoma”, emergono storie di tradimenti, figli illegittimi, omosessualità, e inconfessabili stravaganze.
Gli aneddoti, raccolti da diverse fonti tra cui le famose Vite del Vasari, mostrano come la natura di questi personaggi fuori dal comune, dalla straordinaria capacità creativa, non li abbia allontanati dalle comuni passioni dei “mortali”, rendendoli anzi vittime privilegiate di tutta la gamma delle pene e delle delizie dell’amore.

But what happens when the passions are at the heart of the private lives of great painters and sculptors, rather than infect only during the creation? And how they behave when the artists themselves are shaken by the torments of love?
Galimberti’s path passes through erotic stories lived in first person and represented, more or less secretly, by the great artists of the sixteenth in their works. By analyzing the history of figures such as Michelangelo, Raphael, Cellini and Giovanni Antonio Bazzi known as “Sodoma”, arise stories of betrayal, bastards, homosexuality, and shameful eccentricities. The anecdotes, collected by various sources including the famous Vasari’s Lives, show how the nature of these personalities out of the ordinary, with extraordinary creative capacity, has not averted them by the common passion of “mortals”, making them rather preferred victims of all the entire range of penalties and pleasures of love.
